About this event
An opportunity to work on a project with Barley Massey's support and studio facilities. Be it a new type of garment or accessory you'd like help with tackling or half finished item(s) or perhaps a challenging alteration / restyle / cloning of a wardrobe favourite?
This is also a suitable class for those of you that have some sewing experience but perhaps this is your first time using a pattern and you would like Barley to guide you through.
All levels of sewer are welcome but you do need to know your way around a sewing machine.
During the day, Barley will also share advice and tips on certain techniques that your project might call for, help you get a good fit and suggest ways of achieving a professional finish to your make.
About the Tutor: The class is taught by Barley Massey - a life long "sewist", passionate about creative reuse and encouraging others into the joys of making, remaking and mending. Barley used to work in costume for film & TV before establishing "Fabrications" on Broadway Market 25 years ago. She is an experienced tutor, aiming to build student's self confidence and knowledges. She teaches a regular programme at Fabrications as well as with other organisations and at events.
Class Size: 4 participants to ensure plenty of individual working space and 1to1 consultation.
Time: 11am - 5:30pm (Please arrive promptly)
Where: The class will take place in Fabrications "Re Imaginerium" studio (we no longer have a shop cat as depicted in one of the photos!) which is downstairs from the shop via 12 steps. The studio is light and bright with a homely feel to help you feel relaxed and inspired whilst learning. You will have your own work area (with some shared facilities like ironing, cutting table) We purposefully keep class sizes small to ensure a quality experience and plenty of guidance time with the tutor.
Class Includes: Use of 'Brother' sewing & over locker machines, tools, selection of threads and haberdashery (but check that we have what you need in advance of the class)
Please Bring: Your Project! Ideally cut out your pattern pieces in advance of the class, but if you are new to working with patterns, you are welcome to cut out with Barley's assistance. We also sell some patterns at Fabrications. On booking, Barley will contact you in advance of the class to find out more about your planned project.
Please Note: There is no food or drink allowed in the studio, You are welcome to bring a sealed water bottle but please ensure all 'take outs' are consumed before arriving. For full day classes there is a scheduled lunch break.
