_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

We are running a Biosecurity and Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) workshop specifically targeted towards anyone involved with managing or organising activities in freshwater/ riparian waters. For example:

• Freshwater lakes e.g. angling/sailing/canoeing

• Canals

• Angling/sailing clubs

• River/lake managers or keepers

The workshop is designed to provide attendees with the tools to better manage the threat of INNS, it will include:

• Overview of regionally important INNS

• Improving site biosecurity

• User-groups specific biosecurity actions

• Tools to write an effective biosecurity plan

• Overview of priority species at threat of introduction

• INNS reporting

We will visit the estuary to highlight biosecurity procedures and identify any INNS present. There will be plenty of time during the day for discussions on best practice among attendees.

X Centre, Exeter on Tuesday 12th November

Workshop will run from 10 until 4 with tea, coffee and a light lunch provided. Please ensure you bring appropriate outdoor clothing for the weather.

If you have a biosecurity plan for your site that you would be happy to discuss during the workshop, whether it is in draft form or in use, please get in touch on booking.

An agenda will be available prior to the event.

RAPID LIFE

RAPID LIFE is a three-year project (2017-2020) piloting innovative approaches to Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) management in freshwater aquatic, riparian and coastal environments across England. The project has two strands, the first was the production of the Regional INNS Management Plans (RIMPS) (Available here: http://www.nonnativespecies.org/index.cfm?pageid=632).

These workshops form the second strand of the project, aiming to raise awareness with water resource managers and user groups and provide the toolkits for improved biosecurity across the region.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, in partnership with Devon Wildlife Trust, wrote the South West RIMP. We are now working on the second strand through biosecurity and priority species training workshops.
