Event description
Freya Roy AHLKE UK Tour comes to London's SJQ, Dalston. Full-band headline show with support TBC. Funded by the MOBOs Help Musicians Fund

About this Event

Fresh out of the vibrant Leeds jazz scene, Norwich-based artist and producer, Freya Roy is dropping her debut album: AHLKE. Among the 20 hugely talented artists supported by the second round of the MOBOs Help Musicians Fund, 2019 is set to be a big year for Freya, kicking it off in spring with the release and UK tour of her crowdfunded-debut album.

Combining a cocktail of Neo Soul; R&B and hip-hop, centered on catchy, melodic hooks and jazz-driven harmony, Freya headlines Servant Jazz Quarters on May 23rd 2019 alongside her full-band. Setting back into the spotlight after a 5-year hiatus, AHLKE has been an exciting project and with a splash of some of Submotion Orchestra's key members on the record; including Simon Beddoe (flugel), pianist and compoer, Taz Modi, and mix engineer, Dom Howard. Live on tour, Freya will be joined by UK jazz pianist and composer, David Austin Grey, drummer Greg Burns from Leeds-based Neo Soul/Afrobeat-inspired band, Necktr, and Leeds bassist Sam Williams.

AHLKE is being released under FCR Music, a label founded by Freya in 2012: a platform she is using to change the perception and visibility of women and minorities in the creative industries.
