We will conduct many experiments during the night with vigils in different areas to attempt contact with spirit.

ACTIVITY :-

Lights turning on when areas are empty, Apparitions of children a lady in old fashioned clothing have been seen A tall shadowy figure of a man seen by teachers & the caretaker in many areas of the lower school. The sound of children playing and singing echo through the halls along with footsteps. What will you find?

HISTORY :-

Aberllechau school opened in 1887. The lower building added later in 1910 due to over crowding as families from rural areas came to seek employment in the mine situated around 200 yards away from the school. Hard to image over 600 children in attendance at any one time. Early years were often hard for families and in 1891 it is recorded that 8 paupers were payed to attend for 1/ (5p) fee while children in some streets were kept away due to small pox in their homes. Whopping cough, scarlet fever, diphtheria and influenza also took many children's lives. In February 1887 an explosion ripped through the mine and killed 37 men and had a huge impact on the community Once again in 1905 on 11th July at 11.45 am 119 men & boys were killed in yet another mine explosion, Leaving 44 widows, 110 fatherless children and , of those killed, 56 were under the age of 20 and 33 under the age of 15. Life revolved around the mine, families with upward of 10/12 children to feed and clothe lost one, two or three members of their family. Welsh hymns echoed across the valley as the community grieved. Thousands packed the roads to pay their respects and the school was empty. They stood strong together and out of the darkness came light. The last tram of coal was October 10th 1968.

There were happier times for the children, street parties and carnivals to name a few. This village has overcome so many obstacles together and that's something to be proud of.

Unfortunately the school doors closed for the very last time in 2014.
