About this event

Like any art - stories are a pleasure in and of themselves. They also act as a tool for remembering, of carrying hope, expressing sorrow, shocking us into rebalancing an understanding, they allow for growth of awareness (de Botton, 2020) and can both guide and manipulate us in our social and political contexts. Myths, Folklore and Fairy tales can be particularly potent as they have been collectively crafted over time, carrying ancient truths that can be understood on several levels at once: the conscious, the unconscious, the individual experience and the social world.

This series of workshops takes a different fairytale each month and looks at its psychology.

We will also examine some of the symbols and motifs in relevant stories and how they can help us deepen our understanding.

Fairytales to be discussed are:

Jack and the Beanstalk. Friday, 19th April 2pm - 3:30 pm (UK).

Snow White and Rose Red. Friday, 17th May 2pm - 3:30 pm (UK).

Little Brother and Little Sister. Friday, 21st June 2pm - 3:30 pm (UK).

The Fitcher's Bird. Friday, 26th July 2pm - 3:30 pm (UK).

AIM OF THE SESSIONS:

These sessions aim to introduce the audience to the use of fairytale, their archetypal symbols and imagery as a creative resource and potential therapeutic tool. As such as part of the experience there will be a reading of the fairytale and then a presentation given to discuss:

Common archetypes and imagery used in fairytales.

The psychotherapeutic relevance of the fairytale from several different psychological perspectives.

Following the presented material, the group will spend the remaining time in the session reflecting on the presented material. Experiencing in action how through the group ‘s discussion, meeting our reactions, our connection to symbols, imagery and association along the way, we might enable each other to better understand this way of formulating and deepening our connection to some of the stories we all live.

Organized by

Clinical Psychologist and a `Group Work Practitioner of Group Analysis.

I have particular interest in depth psychology - both Jungian and Group Analytic.

The workshops I run often are exploring stories and myths in groups as a way to creatively connect and examine individual and collective psychology; providing a choice of teaching spaces, seminars and groups where people can reflect on life.

The reflective spaces I provide can be either “here-and-now” events where participants study what is going on in the moment, paying particular attention to unconscious dynamics and looking at the group-as-a-whole, rather than intrapersonal or interpersonal dynamics. Or events, where the group is invited to reflect on their experiences regarding a particular piece of material: such as a group discussion on a piece of literature, or, a participant sharing a work situation to be thought about together as a group.

It is not unusual that learning is transformational in terms of how participants look at themselves, their roles, their groups, and organisations they are part of.

These reflective spaces are for anyone wanting to experience in action how through the group‘s discussion, meeting our reactions, our connection to symbols, imagery and association along the way, we might enable each other to better understand ourselves, each other and some of the personal and collective stories we all live.

Unless explicitly stated for a specific event, no particular background or experience is necessary to participate.
