The Matt Hurley Group is a contemporary chamber ensemble consisting of tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, trombone, guitar and upright bass combining nuanced compositions and melodic group improvisations. Stylistically, the ensemble centers itself around the traditions of jazz, 20th century classical, folk and ambient music influences, creating a choralesque atmosphere with its unique instrumental lineup.
Drawing upon an eclectic list of musical influences including Don Cherry, Philip Glass, Kenny Wheeler, Gavin Bryers, Dave Holland, Keith Jarrett, Jimmy Giuffre, Joni Mitchell and Benjamin Britten. The ensemble have recently showcased their talents at prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, Barbican Centre, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Cadogan Hall and The Vortex. The have a forthcoming debut album recently recorded at Lightship 95 Studios due to release later this year.
