Fri, June 9, 2017, 7:30 PM – 11:30 PM BST
The Old Courts are excited to welcome singer songwriter Alex Lowe – frontman with Hurricane #1 to play a special Friday Night Live. Signed to Alan McGee’s Creation records, from 1996 onwards Hurricane #1 (which also included Ride’s Andy Bell) rode the Britpop wave and had seven Top Forty Hits, and two Top Twenty Albums in the UK, as well as being featured on Top Of The Pops, TFI Fridays, performing at T In The Park and Glasto during their heyday. Alex has never stopped with the music since then and we’re delighted to be included on the promotional tour of his 5th solo studio album - Rancho Diablo which is due for release in May through Strawberry Moon records.
We’re pleased to say that support on the night comes from Alex’s Strawberry Moon label-mate MATT HENSHAW who’s made quite an impression on the scene in the last couple of years. Playing in excess of 500 shows in little over 18 months through 7 different countries, he has developed a firm global following. Over the course of 2 years this highly prolific award winning singer/songwriter has released 3 EPs, a remix collection, a demo collection and, most recently, the indie chart success ‘Easier’. Rightfully achieving titles such as: NME Breakthrough Artist, Galaxy Award Best EP, Best Singer/Songwriter at Midlands Independent Music Awards and many more. Matt’s relentless ethic, coupled with his intelligent ability to pen a tune places him at the peak of the UK’s solo artists.
Local support comes electro acoustic favourites NORTHWARD FACES who’ll be providing us with a mix of their own original material and a few covers thrown in for good measure. They’ve had a busy few months with gigs around the area and recording new tracks ‘No surprise to me’ and ‘Bookends’, 2017 looks to be a busy one for this local band. Opening the night for us will be local lad JON PEET, who wowed everyone with his soulful, rootsy set back in February.
