Organiser Family Action - Friendship Works

Organiser of Friendship Works Volunteer Webinar 25 January 2022

Friendship Works operates as a distinct service within the national charity Family Action.

We improve the emotional well-being and life chances of children and young adult care leavers who have had a difficult start to life.  We provide the vital support these young people need to build resilience for the future, by matching them with volunteer mentors who give one-to-one support for at least two years.

A Friendship Works mentor has positive attitudes, life-experiences and skills to share with a young person. They know when to provide advice and guidance, and when it’s better just to listen. The best mentors are friendly, fun and always thinking of new things to do. They accept a child just as they are, and encourage them to develop their own interests and find their own solutions in life.

We invite anyone interested in becoming a mentor to attend an information evening, to give you a better idea of what mentoring with us is like. You don’t sign up to anything on the evening and you will be able to make a decision in your own time about whether you would like to progress your application to become a mentor.

We ask for a high level of commitment from our volunteer mentors, but we also provide a high level of support throughout our assessment and training process, and for the duration of your time as a mentor.

At present we are running these events online. We usually hold them monthly, but we are not booking too far in advance during the Covid-19 pandemic, since we may need to pause our recruitment processes at certain points.

If you are unable to make any of the dates below, please check back again for further dates or contact ros.moody@family-action.org.uk to find out when we will be scheduling more events.

We look forward to meeting you at our next Volunteer Information event.
