It has become increasingly apparent in recent decades that one of the major driving forces of contemporary anti-Zionism and of the “new antisemitism” directed at Israel, comes predominantly from the Left of today’s political spectrum. In this ground-breaking lecture, Professor Robert Wistrich will demonstrate that this contemporary trend has deep historical roots in the cultural and ideological DNA of modern Socialism ever since its beginnings in the 1840s.
This lecture will explore in depth the mutations in leftwing attitudes to Jews, Judaism, Zionism and the State of Israel in order to explain how we have arrived at the present impasse. The lecture will seek to show the fatal flaws that underlie so much of leftwing thinking on Jewish issues as well as analyzing the complex psychology of the Jewish relationship to Socialism and Communism.
