Description

From Artist Statements to Articles
A Panel Discussion on Writing about Art

A panel discussion with:

  • Kirsty Ogg (Curator, New Contemporaries)
  • Rebecca Morrill (Senior Editor, Phaidon Press)
  • Christine Jacobson (SPACE Communications Manager

This informal panel discussion will explore different approaches to writing about the artistic practice. The invited guests will offer unique insights into the rationale and perception behind artist statements, press releases and other forms of representation, which aim to give an accurate and efficient impression of the artist and their work.

From critical analysis to creative writing: from writing in the first person to referencing art history: depending on the platform or context, texts on art can take on many tones- when and how should you hit or avoid a certain tone? How can a text clarify or change the perception of an artists work? Can a good text make a bad artwork better? And can a bad text ruin a good artwork?

This event is for current LCN participants only. Anyone attending should please register, so we know how many are coming!
