Event description

Description

At a time when there is uncertainty about the funding environment, changes to the commissioning process, cuts to local authority funding, and growing donor disillusion, and social investment taking off, we have seen a significant increase in interest from charities about developing a social enterprise. Here is your chance to learn and find out from our panel of experts and speakers how to make it work for your organization?

FROM CHARITY TO SOCIAL ENTERPRISE:

• What’s best for your business?

• Will adopting a social enterprise approach give you more sustainable future?

• What particular legal structure a charity must have?

• What are the main things to consider going down this road?

• How do you make the transition?

• What are the issues to address?

How to you manage and lead the organization?

Panel Speakers:

Tom Levitt, Chair, Fair For You

Cosmina Popa, CEO, Rainmaker Foundation

Lauren Meyer, Legal Manager, Trust Law

About the Speakers:

Tom Levitt is a consultant on ‘using the tools of business to create public good’ and the author of ‘Welcome to GoodCo’. A former MP, he has played a leading role on several national charity boards and is currently chair of a new charity, Fair for You, dedicated to reducing the poverty premium through fair lending for people on low incomes in need of household essentials.

Cosmina Popa serves as CEO at Rainmaker Foundation, is a business development expert and devoted entrepreneur-at-life whose experience is firmly rooted in the technology and sustainability sectors. She co-founded an accelerator in Washington DC to support entrepreneurs that are building businesses at the intersection of purpose and profit. She is passionate about the transformative potential of entrepreneurship and is excited to bring her experience to our cohort charities. Cosmina is the co-author of “How to Be a Leader”, published by MacMillan and The School of Life.

Lauren is Legal Manager at the Thomson Reuters Foundation and manages the relations of TrustLaw members and facilitates their engagement with the service.
