Event description

Description

Presented by CPS200 / University of Edinburgh / ROE / BIS Scotland

In this talk, we will link the rich History of Astronomy and Space Science in Scotland with present-day exciting new developments and ambitions, including the proposal to build first Scottish Spaceports. From Astronomers moving their instruments to higher and higher altitudes, to space entrepreneurs hoping to mine asteroids, 50 years since the Moon landings, a new Space Race seems to be starting off! What should we believe and what is “fake news”? Looking at how science, engineering and the rest of society are co-evolving ideas about the future Space Exploration and an off-Earth Economy - what are the opportunities in/for Scotland and how/should we take them? Building a new space ecosystem is not trivial – after all, who said it was not rocket science?!
