Public Health England’s (PHE) Local Knowledge and Intelligence Service (LKIS) for Yorkshire and the Humber run a regular bi-monthly short course to provide an introduction to population health intelligence and its use in everyday public health practice.

Target audience:

This course will be useful for anyone new to public health, or needing a refresher on population health intelligence. It will be particularly valuable to those working on health and its wider determinants within PHE or a local authority. However, it is also relevant to anyone else in the wider health system, including but not limited to those in partner organisations such as the third sector, academia, blue-light services and the wider NHS - CCGs, Trusts, ICS/STPs. Places are not generally available for students or those working for commercial organisations.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this session, you will:

• understand what health intelligence is and how it can be used to measure population health needs, outcomes and inequalities

• have a better understanding of the questions that health intelligence can be used to address

• be able to understand and act on commonly used health intelligence resources

• know where to seek advice and help in obtaining more detailed analysis

Delivery:

This course consists of two e-learning modules with accompanying workbook, which will take in total about 2 hours to complete:

• Introduction to public health intelligence

• Measuring populations

followed by an interactive and hands-on workshop day, focussing on PHE's Fingertips, Local Health and SHAPE tools.

Joining instructions, including how to access the e-learning will be sent out 2-3 weeks ahead of the event

Completion of the e-learning and workbook is a pre-requisite for attendance at the workshop.

On the day, delegates will accesss live data on-line, so it’s important to bring a wifi-enabled laptop. If that's not possible, we will find someone for you to share with.
