About this event

Traditional process instrumentation and equipment combined with ad-hoc connectivity in mining has constrained both business integration and operational productivity. The evolution and subsequent growth of IoT-enabled devices and equipment is trending to overcome this. The result is unprecedented volumes of data becoming available. And this data is beginning to change the way mining operations can work more optimally; in so much transforming many processes from an experiential or engineering design basis, to being ‘data-driven’.

Add to this the expected increase of 5G networks. When combined with the advance in connected devices and equipment, results in massive amounts of device-generated data to traditional centralised data centres, or direct to the cloud. This poses real challenges to the capacity of existing communications infrastructure.

Additionally, as a corollary, the mining industry must now prioritise Operational Technology (OT) data security as IT systems converge with OT systems, with the advent of Industry 4.0 and new ways of working.

We now classify this technology capability as the Edge; a category of sensors, devices and systems integrating to physical processes and equipment which importantly stage acquisition, storage and analytics.

Join us for this important conversation and hear from expert speakers.

Women in Mining UK (WIM UK) is a non-profit volunteer organisation dedicated to promoting the employment, retention and advancement of women in the mining industry, as well as raising awareness of the mining industry as a great career choice for women.

WIM UK has ~2,000 members from across the globe, is operated by a 40-strong volunteer base, and has a wide network of affiliations with other international women-in-mining organisations.

Alongside promoting the business case for gender diversity, WIM UK holds regular networking and education events, has a strong international network, provides members with visibility on the global conference circuit,  to showcase the breadth and depth of female professional talent through our initiative #WIMvoice, offers professional development opportunities, such as mentoring, internships and scholarships and celebrates female success stories via our “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” publication.

Membership is free thanks to the generous support of our Foundation and Pro-Bono Partners and is open to both women and men, in line with our commitment to diversity.
