From field force interviewer to social researcher, a perspective
Tue 2 May 2017, 14:00 – 14:30 BST
This presentation provides a personal overview and general assessment of my experiences working in two different roles for ONS. For 18 months from March 2014 I worked as a field force interviewer in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, working on all major social surveys conducted by ONS. Since October 2015 I have been an RO in SSD on the National Survey for Wales. Through this paper I will highlight the perspective my experience in both roles has given me. I will discuss both the strengths and weaknesses I perceive in social survey data collection, and also consider the relationship between the field and office. I will also discuss the challenges and opportunities social survey data collection transformation presents to ONS based on this context.
