Kids Feeding Team is providing a Top Tips in Tackling Toddler Fussy Eating workshop aiming to give you the knowledge and practical skills required to feel confident in tackling and managing this.

If mealtimes are becoming the most dreaded time of the day, it is important to tackle this. Most babies and toddlers go through a phase of fussy eating which usually occurs around 2-3 years of age. You child is discovering themselves, their personality and exerting control over what they eat and do. Sometimes fussy eating is not just temporary and if left untreated, can develop into a very restrictive diet. Diets which are very restrictive or exclude particular food groups can lead to nutritional deficiencies, malnourishment, developmental delay and faltering growth.

Most children refuse some food at some point, it is perfectly normal. Fussy eating can be a problem if they are continually refusing new foods. Some symptoms include:

· Continually refusing or dislikes trying new foods

· Aversive to particular tastes, textures of food groups

· Becoming more particular and selective with their foods

· Will only eat certain types of food for example fast food

· Not growing or developing as fast as their peers

· Tried and irritable due to lack of energy and nutrients

· Frequent colds or illness

· Weight loss/underweThis top tips for tackling fussy eating workshop will consist of a number of interactive presentations covering a range of topics including why toddlers refuse food, tips on how to manage and cope with this food refusal, meal planning tips and do’s and do nots of reward systems.
