A FREE twilight CPD session on behalf of Doddle

presented by Mark Clarkson, a CAS Master Teacher

At Cramlington Learning Village, Cramlington

4:15 - 6:15pm, Thursday 26th June, 2014

With the new Programme of Study for Computing our subject is shifting its focus towards a balance of ICT and Computer Science.

This 2 hour twilight session is deisgned to help with the transition from ICT to Computing, particularly at KS3 (although the content will also be helpful for KS4).

We will be looking at how we can ensure the students understand sorting algorithms without boring them to death and how students can move beyond Scratch into more text-based programming languages.

There will be resources available to take away and you can get a sneak preview of Doddle Computing resources designed to help ease the transition and potentially eliminate the need to write entirely new schemes of work from scratch (or about Scratch).

No prior computer science experience is required and all equipment & software is provided for you as well as light refreshments and resources to take away.

Timetable (subject to change)

Time Activity
4:15-4:30 Welcome & refreshments
4:30-4:40 Introduction, curriculum changes, transition between ICT and Computing
4:40-5:10 Workshop 1 - sorting algorithms (through playing cards and dance)
5:10-5:20 Break & networking
5:20-6:10 Workshop 2 - moving on from Scratch with Python and EasyGUI
6:10-6:15 Plenary

And to make it even better...

Why not stay on for the CLVFestival Teachmeet? Meet other teachers of all disciplines for an informal 'unconference' with short mini- and nano- presentations on a range of practical ideas you can use in your own classroom. If you've not been to a Teachmeet before then this would be an ideal opportunity. Find out more and book your Teachmeet place at the Teachmeet wiki.
