About this talk:
The event marks the official launch of the final report of the Public Sector Capabilities Index (PSCI) and the announcement of a future collaboration: a three-year collaboration to scale, embed, and improve the index in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies.
This future collaboration aims to scale the index to at least 3,500 cities globally, establish it as a standard for funders and governments, and improve the experience of using the tool, developing clearer pathways for action and reform. The next phase will pay particular attention to the interplay between city and national governments, supporting better aligned investments in capabilities and enabling more effective intergovernmental collaboration.
Over the past two years, the Index has been co-developed with over 200 government officials across 45 cities and further 100 urban experts. It provides a rigorous, scalable way to assess how governments adapt, learn, and deliver in the face of complex challenges. The event will celebrate this collective achievement while turning attention to what comes next: a bold effort to create the first global baseline of dynamic capabilities in public sector institutions.
The event will be held in-person in London on Friday, 3rd October, from 17:30–19:00 BST, with online participation possible. The recording will be available after the event for others to view. The panel will feature Jim Anderson, Mariana Mazzucato and Rainer Kattel alongside additional panellists to be confirmed. A short reception will follow.
