Workshop Details

During this workshop, we will explore the world of naturally derived colours from a historical and local perspective. Participants will have the opportunity to try out a selection of traditional and unusual earth and mineral pigments used to create paintings through time. Following this we will turn our focus to some of the colours that can be found in the local landscape, such as river stones, clay and earth. Participants will be guided through the process of transforming these natural materials into different types of water-based paint and other art supplies. They will then be able to take some examples home with them at the end of the day.

About the Artists

Edward and Lucy have been practising artists for the last twenty years working in a range of mediums. During the last ten years, they have founded the Old Mill Gallery in a village located in southwest Scotland. This is a gallery, bookshop and plant dye garden as well as being a place where they have hosted a range of events over the years This has evolved into a workshop hosting space specialising in handmade and foraged art materials alongside the history and philosophy of approaching creative work in this way. They run workshops in this subject both in the Mill and increasingly in other locations around the North of the country.
