About this event

Hosted by NCACE and Bath Spa University

How can arts and cultural organisations and researchers work together through PhD research—and what does it take to make it successful?

Join NCACE and Bath Spa University for an online workshop exploring the opportunities and realities of collaborative doctoral partnerships and other ways of embedding research in arts and cultural organisations. This event is for arts and cultural organisations curious about doctoral research collaboration, researchers considering a collaborative PhD, and academics interested in co-supervision.

Contributors include:

Through discussion and case studies, we’ll look at:

  • Different models of collaboration—from PhD co-supervision to residencies and co-designed projects
  • How to shape strong research questions together
  • What it really means to host or supervise a doctoral researcher
  • The challenges (and solutions) shared by those who’ve done it before

The session will feature insights from academics, doctoral students, and arts professionals, plus open discussion to share experiences and ideas. You’ll also have the chance to feed into a new Collaborative PhD Toolkit being developed to support future partnerships.

Why attend?

  • Explore how to embed and support doctoral research across academia and the arts and cultural sectors
  • Learn directly from peers and practitioners with hands-on experience
  • Explore opportunities to start or strengthen research collaborations
