From reaction to connection
Overview
This webinar will give you practical steps to take, covering a wide range of behaviours and a chance to put behaviour you'd like a response for to the trainer.
If you have the questions 'what do I do when they do.......' then this is the webinar for you.
For so long we have been told to use boundaries and consequences in ways that assert power and control. Often, the delivery being that of confrontation and authority. This has a limit and for many Neurodivergent young people, those with mental health difficulties and in fact any young person potentially who is dysregulated rather than defiant; it can increase distress and escalate behaviour or worse, cause long term emotional harm and damage your relationship with them.
More recently, there has been a shift towards low demand practices. A great shift in principle. Yet at times not given enough explanation or detail, leaving adults mistakenly thinking they can no longer present any boundaries or offer any input and must back off the moment there is an issue.
Backing off is not backing down. The challenge is knowing when to back off, when to guide and when to change direction. This webinar will help you with that.
Often, what low demand does is create space for connection. Once there is connection, we can still guide and delicately deliver the reality of the world. If not, we are not setting our young people up for success.
Your host Sam Harris will draw on two decades of experience with hundreds of different young people of all kinds of Neurotypes and differences; with practical examples from current daily practice.
If you feel like you are just reacting to the young person you supports behaviour, having a clear plan and response is key to moving forward. This webinar aims to give you just that. Whether parent or professional; supporting any young person of any age or neurotype, this webinar can help.
