About this event

The University of Nottingham, the British High Commission Singapore, the British Council, and Asia House, are delighted to present a very special lecture by Professor Shearer West, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Nottingham and Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Part of the Knowledge is GREAT Singapore Lecture Series, the evening will be introduced by Ms Kara Owen CVO, British High Commissioner to Singapore.

Professor West will deliver an informal lecture on her area of academic expertise: the history of portraiture. From Rembrandt to Van Gogh to Cindy Sherman – this history can illuminate the role that portraits have in our lives today. This will be a wide-ranging public lecture, focusing on everything from the rage for selfies, to photographs of political leaders around the world appearing on social media and in major newspapers and magazines.

The evening will be hosted by the National Gallery of Singapore and will include a networking reception catered by Violet Oon.
