About this event

Health • Mental health

We live in a world that keeps us on edge -  emails, deadlines, family pressures, and a nervous system constantly alert. This two-hour workshop explores how we can transition from stress to greater safety, balance, and presence.

Stress isn't just in the mind - it resides in the body, our relationships, and in the thought patterns we carry from the past. For many of us, stress has become a default state: tension in the shoulders, racing thoughts, trouble resting, or feeling detached from others.

Drawing on psychotherapy, neuroscience, and contemplative practice, in this two-hour workshop you will be guided by Rory Singer (psychotherapist, teacher, and Clinical Director of New Road Psychotherapy) through a therapeutic exploration of how stress arises, why it persists, and how we can establish the conditions for safety and ease.

The session will weave together short talks, guided practices, and reflective dialogue. You will:

  • Learn how the nervous system responds to threat, and why it sometimes “gets stuck” in stress mode.
  • Experience practical exercises to downshift the body from tension into calm.
  • Explore the relational side of safety: how connection with others can restore balance.
  • Leave with simple take-home practices for everyday life.

This is not a lecture but an experiential session; an invitation to pause, breathe, and rediscover your grounding. No prior knowledge of therapy or meditation is needed.

This event is part of Brighton Wellness Festival: a city-wide celebration of holistic health and wellbeing, taking place 1–8 October 2025. Powered by a year-round community of wellness practitioners, BWF exists to promote authentic, inclusive and grounded wellness across Brighton and beyond.
