Continuing the programme’s move towards ‘Thriving’, this session uses the psychological literature’s definitions of happiness – and its proven practical strategies – to help participants become just a little bit happier. Introduction to the series

While a joyful curiosity might be the fuel of research, doing it day-to-day can be really tough.

This four-week programme aims to help researchers move just a little bit from a sense of merely ‘surviving’ within the research process to ‘thriving’, being just a little bit more productive and happy.

Eschewing the hyperbole of the self-help industry, this programme provides participants with practical tools and strategies grounded in the literature.

Although every module is predominantly self-contained, each one builds a foundation for the next; so it is advantageous to participate in all four of the 2 hour weekly sessions hosted on Zoom, with each distilling the ‘essentials’ of the topic.

About Dr Matt Lane

Programme Leader

An AHRC-sponsored PhD, from 2010-18, Matt Lane was a Researcher Developer at the University of Cambridge, where in 2017, he was formally recognised for his ‘outstanding contribution’ to the development of early career researchers. Now a Director of The Researcher Development Partnership, Cambridge, and based on his own experiences of doing a PhD, he helps alleviate the stress of research and so specialises in researcher Wellbeing, Writing and Leadership development.
