About this event
- Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes
When your body stops moving, what is left?
An older disabled woman considers what makes life worth living...
and wonders, what happens when we die?
Where do we go, and how does it feel there?
Her daughter is grateful for every movement her body can make - dancing stops her from being dragged down by an abiding anxiety, gnawing at her nervous system.
A meditation on life and death, embodiment and the afterlife; told in words and movement.
'From the 7th Layer' is written, created and performed by Esther Bunting, as part of Deptford X 2025. It has been developed during the last year, performed at 'Figuratively Speaking' festival; 'Drink & Draw Berlin'; Candid Arts; and The Crypt Gallery Euston.
The duration is approximately one hour. Time to connect and reflect afterwards.
Please bring your own drawing materials if you would like to draw. There is plenty to watch without drawing, (in fact drawing the show can be challenging!) as there is a lot to concentrate on.
Contains nudity. Suitable for age 14+
There is step free access though for wheelchair access please be in touch to check in advance if the ramp is wide enough.
You can buy food at The Royal Albert in their restaurant, or enjoy drinks there. Thanks to the pub for hosting!
Deptford X Festival 2025 is from July 11 - 27 in venues across Deptford. Check out all the amazing exhibitions and events. Very excited to be part of my local art festival for the first time!
Please only book if you intend to come along, and if you can't make it please cancel your order, as there are limited tickets due to the small room size.
Close to various stations: New Cross, Deptford Bridge, Deptford, New Cross Gate.
Please make a donation when booking according to your means. Cash and card also accepted on the day. The work is self funded.

Frequently asked questions
Yes but not many and only for a few minutes.
Don't worry about what it looks like! Just capture some lines and impressions, or express some of the feeling in the show. Enjoy being abstract and letting your pencil or other implement move freely. Allow yourself to draw like a child.
Sometimes yes, but there is also lightness and exuberance. It depends on your taste. The scenes jump in time to create a collage of experience.
Generally no, but if I am clothed it is ok. Please credit me if you post an image online. Please share with me if it is particularly good!
No! Please eat before or after the show.
Yes, please do.
Yes if they are well behaved.
Not really, sorry!
I have lost all objectivity on that score! I think that's a personal response based on your comfort level with seeing the nude human form.
I don't think so. Possibly it will offer more hope, curiosity and even excitement about life after death.
It is art, imagination. Just be with it. Enjoy stepping out of the ordinary for an hour or so.
