Book Launch with Purpose:
From the Classroom to the Climb
Cardiff, 14 November 2025 – Former headteacher turned entrepreneur Derek Thomas is launching his new book, From the Classroom to the Climb: Lessons in Resilience & Growth, at the St. David’s Hotel & Spa, Cardiff Bay.
The book tells Derek’s story of leaving a 29-year teaching career, taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and building a successful entrepreneurial journey. It shares lessons in resilience, mindset, and personal growth — themes that resonate powerfully with his chosen cause.
All profits from the book and event will go to the Malisita Foundation, which supports Stella Maris School and Orphanage in Malisita, near Moshi, Tanzania. The school cares for and educates vulnerable children, and Derek’s vision is to help introduce entrepreneurship into the curriculum, preparing pupils for a future where AI and automation will reshape the job market.
The launch evening promises much more than a book unveiling. Guests will enjoy a three-course meal, live entertainment, interviews, and an auction, with each ticket including a signed copy of the book and access to exclusive online training resources.
