From zero to Gattaca - using Machine Learning in Genetics
Wed 14 June 2017, 19:00 – 20:30 BST
Evening Tech Talk: From zero to Gattaca - using Machine Learning in Genetics
In the last 150 years we have made tremendous advances in understanding the role of particular mutations in the genome on the risk of developing specific diseases. In this talk we will explain how ML techniques such as the random forest can be used to categorise observed genetic data in terms of these risks. We will discuss the successes and the challenges of such methods as well as how advances in genome sequencing and engineering may impact humanity.
