Frontline workshop - working with you people
Wed 12 October 2016, 16:00 – 18:00 BST
The working with young people workshop will provide an insight into the challenges faced by young people in care and focus on listening and eliciting information from children.
In this session we will explore (through roleplay and group/class wide participation) the theory behind listening to young people and therapeutic play (exploring how young people usually express themselves more freely using play than formal ‘talking interviews’ (for example Kinetic drawing)). Attendees will also get the opportunity to unpack case studies of young people in care and begin to explore how they might work with young people facing similar situations.
As well as a look into some of the direct work tools used by social workers to understand a young person’s world, other learning objectives of the session will be understanding a case study, exploring of how parental mental health can affect children, reflecting on how it feels to share personal information about yourself and how young people and families may feel when working with social workers.
The graduate programme and undergraduate opportunities on offer will also be discussed as well as any questions about a career in social work.
