Can I book onto this training out of general interest?

Accepted Answer

You can only book onto this training if you meet the minimum academic requirements (see below) and intend to volunteer at  the Free Representation Unit.

Question 2

What requirements do I need to meet before I can start volunteering with the FRU?

Accepted Answer

To volunteer for FRU you must:

Attend a training course
Pass a test to assess your competence 
Observe a tribunal
Attend an office induction
You must take out your first case within one year of attending a training course. This is to make sure that your training is up-to-date.

Question 3

Can I attend both this training and the employment law training on 11 and 12 October?

Accepted Answer

We welcome volunteers who want to volunteer in both areas. You will need to attend both training courses and pass the test for each subject in order to volunteer in that area of law.

Question 4

Can I cancel my booking if things change?

Accepted Answer

You can cancel your booking . You will receive a refund minus a £5 cancellation fee. We do not provide refunds for cancellations received less than 48 hours before the training starts. If you want to cancel please email admin@thefru.org.uk.

Question 5

What are the academic requirements to attend the training?

Accepted Answer

1. Have completed your LLB or GDL
2. Have completed the CILEX level 6 diploma
3. Be a Foreign Qualified Lawyer or have practical experience of working in the tribunals we cover - at least 6 months FTE work

Question 6

Do I have to attend the whole of this training?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you must attend the whole of each session in order to be qualified to work as a FRU volunteer. A log of attendance will be kept. Please don't book if you will be travelling, have family or work commitments or otherwise can't give your full attention to the training.
