A talk and reading by writer, academic, and cultural activist Fruela Fernández. Born and educated in the coal-mining region of Asturias (Northern Spain), and currently based in Newcastle, he has published three books of poems: Una paz europea (Villa de Cox Award 2015), Folk (2013), and Círculos (Young Asturias Award 2000). From 2007 to 2011, he co-directed the poetry festival 'Cosmopoética', which won the Reading Promotion Award of the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 2009. His latest book, Una paz europea, rethinks the European North/South divide through the memories and voices of Asturian migrants.
The talk will be in English, followed by a poetry reading in Spanish with English translations.
