FSB Broadband event
Thu 4 February 2016, 18:00 – 20:30 GMT
Broadband Seminar at Putteridge Bury, Faculty Of Management & Conference Centre, Putteridge Rd, Luton, Bedford LU2 8LE on Thursday 4th Feb 2016 6.00 – 8.30pm
Small firms and entrepreneurs are increasingly aware that access to high-quality broadband provision is a commercial necessity and that in many respects it represents the ‘fourth utility’.
Today, broadband provision varies widely across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire in respect of coverage, bandwidth speed and service quality. In some parts of the region , predominantly in rural areas, coverage is either very poor or non-existent.
In a world where business is increasingly conducted online, small firms located in these areas are thus at a competitive disadvantage. This has knock-on effects for the prosperity of local economies and exacerbates regional economic imbalances. Yet, studies also show, many urban or semi-urban businesses can experience poor coverage too, and even where broadband is available the range and quality of services often fall short of what businesses require.
We have therefore put a seminar to discuss issues of broadband and connectivity in which we welcome Peter Lilley MP for a government view and Cllr David Levett from North Herts District Council to hear how the local authorities are helping and finally Giles Ellerton from British Telecom will give you an overview of what the future holds. The event is free and there will be a chance to discuss this and other issues with like mined businesses.
