Event description

Description

Join us for a great evening of training and conversation.

If you've not been to a Fuel Training event before, the format is very simple - a range of 20 minute sessions for you to choose from on a variety of subjects to help you think, question and journey with in your youth and children's work. It is then finished with a keynote session for everyone. There are always wonderful snacks, drinks and good company.

This time, we're doing things a little differently. As you book your ticket, you will be asked to select your talks. Please choose four options - you will be able to attend three. The extra option just helps us make sure you can attend talks you are interested in, in case there is a clash.

Please take a moment to look through the list of talks, so you can pick the ones you would most like to see. The titles may change before the event, but the topics won't.

Keynote (all delegates) - Pastoral care of children and young people - Dr Kate Middleton

Optional sessions (choose four):

Managing mayhem, chaos and behaviour without being a Sargent major! - Kieran Murphy

A session looking at behaviour techniques, ideas and tips which can help everyone engage and enjoy the group.

Kieran is the Director of Phase. He has been working with young people for over 15 years, much of this based in secondary schools but also in church youth work. He is passionate about seeing young lives changed, helping leaders feel equipped and the helping churches impact the community.

More than just school on a Sunday? - Martha Inch

Can children’s activities at church be more than just a school lesson on a Sunday? How do we make them engaging for children of different ages and abilities? Sometimes it is hard to know what to plan and how to plan it. This session will look at how we plan sessions, where we find materials and how we can make sure that every child gets the most out of the activities.

Martha is assistant church leader at the Hub Church. She leads the team that runs the morning community, which means that she gets to be a big kid most of the time! She loves coffee, and is enjoying watching the new series of 24.

Games, ice breakers and team builders: more than just for fun! - Mike Palin

Mike is Director of the 267Project. Through 267, Mike wants to support and encourage youth and children’s work across the area. He looks forward to seeing what God is doing where you are and hopes to be able to support in some way.

Bringing generations together - Gail Adcock

Church communities are one of the few places today where people of differing ages and generations gather. Yet much of the time when we’re together we tend to separate by age group. How can we rediscover our identity as ‘one body’, worshipping and growing authentic relationships that are beneficial for all? This session will introduce approaches to becoming an intergenerational church where everyone flourishes.

Gail is Family Ministry Development Officer with the Discipleship and Ministries Learning Network of the Methodist Church, and recently led on the ‘We Are Family’ research into work in this field. Her background is in primary teaching, she was Family Pastor for ten years in a Luton church, completed her MA in Children & Family Ministry in 2013. She enjoys being creative and hanging out with her husband and teenage sons.

Staying spiritually healthy - Matt Summerfield

How do you ensure that your work FOR God doesn't kill the work OF God in you? Food for the soul, to help you stay on track with the most important relationship of all.

Matt balances his time between being the President of Urban Saints and the Senior Pastor of Hitchin Christian Centre. Life is never dull! He's passionate about releasing potential in people and organisations, with a particular bias towards seeing children and young people live God's great adventure for their lives. Matt has been involved in youth work for over 25 years. He is the founder of livelife123.org - a new movement of people committed to intentional, accountable disciple-making relationships.

Textual tenacity - Rob Payne

How to build leaders' and volunteers' confidence in their Bible knowledge.

Rob was born in Luton in September 1973. It wasn't until 1995 that he found Jesus and came to faith. He has been ministering as the Youth & Children's Pastor at Com Church in Dunstable for the last 13 years with his wife Sarah, and in recent years has also been on the main leadership team in the church. He has more recently been ordained by ELIM Pentecostal Church and is currently in his final year of a Theology degree. He has two children and enjoys movies, rock music and Nandos.
