Join us from 1800 onwards for refreshments and networking, followed by our evening seminar from 1830 on Emotion at Work in Authenticity, Vulnerability, Deception and the Credibility Conundrum with Phil Willcox
If you were fortunate to join Phil's shorter session at #CIPDNAP16, this session will go deeper and uncover more about Emotions at Work, so still well worth attending.
Synopsis: Every day we (and those we work with) wrestle with how we feel, what is OK to show or share or how to 'be'. We are told that being authentic and vulnerable are things to aspire to and yet they are incredibly difficult things to do. This session intends to get into why that is the case, how we can deal with that as individuals and then what can be done to help others and/or an organisation
Why attend? There are a lot of articles, blogs, books and TED type talks on the themes of authenticity and vulnerability. Emotion consistently features in these in an implicit way and sometimes in an explicit way. However, the role of deception and the use of authenticity or vulnerability as a Credibility Management strategy is talked about much less often.
In this interactive session we will use case studies, discussion and research data to explore these themes. Particularly, we want to answer questions like:
- What does vulnerability look like in your context?
- Is there such a thing as authenticity?
- What are the opportunities and risks of being 'truly vulnerable' or 'completely authentic'?
- Where on a deception spectrum is it OK (or do we need) to be?
This session will be a combination of real life practical examples, framework(s) to help us unpick what is happening, reflection to make sense of it all and moving into application with clear actions and next steps.
