What is HypnoBirthing.

Hypnobirthing is an antenatal education programme that teaches techniques over a 4 week course to help reduce anxiety and help towards a more relaxed and calm birth. The classes will teach specific techniques such as relaxation, self-hypnosis and breathing techniques that combined together can reduce fear and tension so that your body can get on and have a baby.

There is some evidence to show that these techniques if practiced regularly can reduce the need for some analgesia, increase your birthing experience and can even reduce the length of your labour.

The courses are run by midwives and maternity support workers who work on our Delivery Suite.

The classes use The Wise Hippo teaching method and the four sessions are structured as follows:

Class one

* Defining hypnosis

* Acknowledging pain

* How we birth and the impact of fear

* Mind/body connection

* The impact of others

* Taking charge of your thoughts

Class two

* Positions for relaxation

* Breathing

* Self-hypnosis

* Eyes open hypnosis, time distortion, anchoring

* Birth partners script

* Establishing a practice routine
