Event description

Description

*This event is now fully booked. We hope to see you however on 20 - 27 September for the global climate strike and week of action!*

Concerns about climate breakdown and concerns about human rights abuses are closely linked.

The UN Climate Action Summit on 23 September is being billed as a major moment at which governments can announce significant increases to their level of ambition on climate change. The global climate strike and week of action from 20 – 27 September is a moment when we can ratchet up the pressure on decisionmakers.

Before governments meet in New York, and before the week of action, young people will meet in central London to prepare for the climate strike and what follows.

The event is organised by the UK Student Climate Network, UK Youth Climate Coalition, Amnesty Student Action Network, Islamic Relief, Young Quakers, NUS and Friends of the Earth.

Speakers include Zamzam Ibrahim (President of the National Union of Students), Munadiah Aftab (Islamic Relief), Fope Olaleye (NUS Black Students Officer), Serena Jemmett (Amnesty UK) and school strike organisers.

Youth event

This is a summit for young people concerned about climate change to have our say. The maximum age for participants is 25 and the minimum age is 13.

The venue

The event will be at the headquarters of the National Council of Voluntary Organisations in central London.

The meeting room will be on the ground floor and the event will be wheelchair accessible throughout.

There are male, female and gender neutral toilets in addition to the wheelchair accesible toilet.

BSL interpretation will be provided if it is indicated that it will be needed.

There will be a prayer room and a separate quiet space.

The event includes a free lunch which will be provided on arrival and will be fully vegetarian with vegan options.

Ticket cost

There is a standard £5 non-refundable booking fee for the event. This fee is to assist the event organisers with administration and to part fund no-cost tickets and travel grants.
