Description

This one day course will thoroughly explain how the muscles, bones and joints of the shoulder affect function. By the end of the course you will fully understand the muscle interactions, how to assess, train and rehabilitate this area, as well as understanding how it interacts to surrounding structures.

This course is for anyone involved in training people such as Personal Trainers, Fitness coaches, Pilates and Yoga instructors. Anyone involved with treating or rehabilitating spinal problems such as Sports Therapists, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropracters.

The Learning outcomes area to understand the functional anatomy and physiology of the shoulder, allowing for assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to occur through clinical reasoning.

The course covers:

  • Overview of the shoulder.
  • The gleno-humeral joint (GHJ) structure and function
  • Practical: Bony landmarks and positions. Joint assessment for Capsulitis, Arthritis, Labral Tear & Subluxation.
  • Muscles of the GHJ, anatomy and function.
  • Injury implications
  • Practical: Assessment of GHJ position, Muscle tests and rehabilitation of GHJ muscles.
  • Scapular anatomy and function.
  • Scapulohumeral rythum
  • Practical: Assessment of Bony landmarks and positions/ Scapulohumeral rhythm.
  • Muscles affecting scapula position.
  • Practical: Assessment of Scapula position, movement and muscle activation. Muscle tests and rehabilitation.
  • The acromioclavicula (ACJ), Sternoclavicular Joint (SCJ), Sternocostal joint & Costovertabral joint structure and function.
  • Injury implications
  • Clavicular muscles anatomy and function.

  • Practical: Assessment of clavicluar position, testing and rehabilitation of musculature
  • Nerves of the shoulder and arm.
  • Mobilisations and rehabilitation of the nerves.
