This course is intended for geologists, geophysicists and engineers who want to use seismic data for petroleum exploration and/or production.
The course provides an overview of key principles of seismic stratigraphy and fundamentals knowledge at the basis of an effective seismic interpretation. It will discuss several examples from around the globe aiming to offer an overview of different challenges and complexity associated with variable basin and tectonic settings and depositional environments.
The participant learns what they can gain from seismic reflection survey, its limitations and pitfalls by interpreting 2D seismic reflection lines from actively producing hydrocarbon areas.
The main course objectives are:
- Acquire methodology and develop competencies in classic seismic interpretation
- Relate the subsurface stratigraphy to well data
- Interpret a seismic line from a geologic, geodynamic, structural and stratigraphic point of view.
The course is designed for
This course is suitable for geologists, geophysicists and reservoir engineers willing to acquire theoretical and practical know-how on classic seismic interpretation, and to understand what information they can gain from seismic reflection data.
Basics of geology
Basics of geophysics
Work flow of interpretation
Seismic interpretation in extensive regimes
Seismic interpretation in compressive regimes
