Do you want to know more about the processes and methodologies you can use to ensure that user insights and customer feedback form a regular feed into your design processes?

In this course, we will look at user centred design fundamentals and go through the different tools and methodologies available to help you introduce more user centred thinking in your organisation. We will cover a range of research and design techniques such as user testing, remote testing, wireframing and more. Finally, we will look at the basics of information architecture and navigation design. Throughout the day, you will gain hands-on experience with usability research tools and techniques.

This course is for those who are new to this area or currently working in UX/UCD and would like to have a more holistic overview of UCD processes and what they can do to introduce more design thinking to their organisation.

  • Fundamentals of the user centred design process: What is it? Why is it important? And how can it fit in with your organisation and its objectives?
  • An overview of UCD research methodologies including usability research, diary studies, focus groups, mobile testing, remote testing, and more.
  • Choosing the right tool: which technique is appropriate in which scenario?
  • An introduction to wireframing and prototyping and how to use them as part of your user research.
  • How to translate insights into user requirements and establishing project success metrics
  • An introduction to web accessibility
  • Principles of navigation and Information architecture
  • How to become a UCD champion in your organisation: strategies for socialising UX activities and raising the profile of UX within your organisation.

What to expect on the day?

Throughout the day you and your classmates will get the opportunity to test what you have learned and apply user centred design thinking to different situations. You will be asked to plan, design and run different types of user tests and analyse results.

You will receive a print-out of all training materials and course activities. There is no exam in this course but all successful participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the day.

30 days or more before training - full refund or attend a future course date

  • 15-29 days prior to training - 50% refund
  • 7-14 days prior to training - 25% refund
  • 6 days or less prior to training - no refund

Abi Reynolds

Abi has been involved in research and user experience for over 10 years. Starting off with setting up and running a usability lab in a College she then moved to leading in-house research teams. She is now enjoying leading a small team of consultants working with a range of clients helping them bring more user centred design to their organisations. Abi regularly speaks at UX events throughout the UK and is a popular trainer in our in-house training courses.

Specialisms and interests: user research methodologies and processes, interaction design principles and supporting clients build their own in-house UX strategies.
