About this event

Core cost grants are funding for charity and CIC running costs, such as salaries and other overhead costs that don't appeal to many grant makers, such as rent, utilities, staff wages and other general running costs.

This session will cover which funders cover core funding opportunities and how to apply to them and will cover:

  • Understand what Core Costs are.
  • Who are the Core Cost funders and where to find them?
  • How to talk to funders about your core cost funding needs in a way that works to your advantage.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to include ‘core costs’ in all your applications and present them in a way that is appealing to funders.
  • How to make the best use of grant funding when you are successful.

The sector is crying out for core costs funding. Fundraisers from VCSE groups consistently tell us that core costs are one of their greatest fundraising challenges. Despite increasing pressure, many fundraisers don’t feel as confident applying to grant funders for core costs.

Also referred to as running costs, overheads, operating costs, organisational costs, and central costs, funders’ definitions and willingness to fund core costs can be unclear and vary wildly.

Understandably, this can feel complicated and overwhelming!

This session has a focus on bid writing and will benefit anyone who works in grant fundraising or with responsibilities for fundraising within their role.

This session is appropriate for people of all levels of experience and organisations across the sector.
