Join the London Sea Shanty Collective and the Morris Folk Choir for a fundraising concert for St. Anne's care home
About this event
Two London community choirs are coming together for a celebratory concert, with all funds raised going towards the cost of heating repairs at St Anne's care home.
London Sea Shanty Collective
We’re the London Sea Shanty Collective, a community choir who sing shanties and maritime songs with one eye to the tradition and the other to the future. Founded in 2017, we write and adapt maritime songs, sometimes with a contemporary twist. As well as English we sing in French, Swedish, Breton, Welsh and Cornish. We’ve performed in such venues as the British Library, British Museum and Mycenae House in London, and at festivals from Harwich to Hull to County Cork. We’re a no-audition community choir, open to all and made up of a mix of women and men of all ages from around the world, committed to social justice and equality. www.londonseashantycollective.com
Morris Folk Choir
Since 2008 we have been coming together to learn sea-shanties, murder ballads, protest songs, work songs, love melodies, folkified non-folk songs, and good old knees-up tunes, from all across the centuries and from all over the world. Our repertoire reflects the inclusive, internationalist, outward-looking nature of folk music: treasuring songs which have their roots in the tradition of local and national communities but which belong to anyone and everyone, embracing songs from one another's traditions, and understanding that anything that has roots is living, growing and changing. www.morrisfolkchoir.org
