Fundraising from Grant-Making Bodies: Improving your applications

Who should attend this course?
This half-day course is designed for those working in the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in Kent (excluding Medway) who need to begin or improve their applications to grant-making trusts and/or National Lottery funders.
The course will cover:
- What is a grant-making trust? (overview of the sector)
- Why do applications fail?
- Principles and planning for trust fundraising
- How to research grant-making trusts
- Getting evidence of need and outcomes
- Writing the application
- Dos and don'ts of trust fundraising
Kathy Roddy is a qualified and experienced fundraising trainer who has spent more than 20 years in the voluntary sector, first as Executive Director of a national animal welfare organisation, then, since 2000, as a fundraising trainer and consultant. She is a member of, and holds, the Institute of Fundraising’s Certificate in Fundraising Management and has recently co-authored an MA module with the University of Kent Centre for Philanthropy on the ‘Art and Science of Fundraising’. Through both training and consultancy, Kathy has helped charities and voluntary groups raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for good causes.

What's the refund policy?
We are unable to provide refunds, but are happy for you to transfer the ticket to another person working or volunteering in the Voluntary, Community or Social enterprise sector in Kent.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
Yes. We are are happy for you to transfer the ticket to another person working or volunteering for a Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector organisation operating in at least one of the 12 district councils in Kent (excluding Medway).
Terms and conditions
All participants confirm that they volunteer or work for a Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector organisation operating in at least one of the 12 district councils in Kent. (excluding Medway). We adopt a wide definition of the VCSE sector which includes registered charities, not for profit organisations, faith groups, sports and arts clubs and social enterprises. If you are unsure whether your organisation counts as a VCSE sector organisation, please contact Pauline Smith on 01732 749426.
Training fees are non-refundable. If you cannot attend on the booked date, you are welcome to send someone else who volunteers or works for a community and social sector (VCSE) organisation operating in at least one of the 12 district councils in Kent. (excluding Medway).
All participants will be asked to complete a pre-course registration form and post-course evaluation form. West Kent will use this information in order to analyse the effectiveness of our courses.
