Free fungi walk, an introduction to the wonderful world of mushrooms in the Jewellery Quarter Cemeteries with expert guide Lukas Large
This free walk is organised by Caring for God's Acre as part of the Our Digital Ancestors Project which is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England.
Lukas Large, Natural Science Curator from Birmingham Museums Trust will lead you around the cemeteries, with chances to learn about the wonderful world of fungi and why they are so important.
This guided walk will last up to 2 hours and may include walking on uneven ground, because the best fungi might not be near the pathways. If you have concerns about mobility or other access requirements please email josie@cfga.org.uk. What we look at will vary according to the season/weather and where the walk takes us. This event is taking place at dusk so that we can use UV torches to look at glow in the dark mushrooms so expect low light levels by the end of the event. We also have ordinary torches for safety. We will meet outside The Rose Villa Tavern and then walk over to Warstone Lane and Key Hill Cemeteries together.
Tickets for this event are free but places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. This event is suitable for all ages but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The closest car park is the Vyse Street multistorey car park (B18 6LP) which is open until 8.30pm. Parking can be paid for by cash or card (via the RingGo app). The Jewellery Quarter station for trains and trams is a short walk away, as are the number 8A/8C and 101 bus stops.
