Join our fun-gal Gemma from the Help Nature Thrive team as we take a walk through the park to identify and record fungi, to learn about their importance within a healthy and sustainable ecosystem.

We will discuss fungi identification, citizen science recording, woodland ecology and climate resilience.

This 2 hour beginners walk is aimed at adults with an interest in learning more about the natural world.

Please note: the walk starts the Waterside Café and ends near Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

Who is this event aimed at?

This event is aimed at adults who are interested in learning more about fungi, citizen science, and ecology. It is suitable for both absolute beginners and for those who already have some knowledge.

How accessible is the event?

We will walk at a slow-moderate pace, often venturing off-path on uneven or muddy park terrain. We will pause frequently to examine species closely. Species may be found at varying heights off the ground. You are free to leave the event at any time. Please contact HelpNatureThrive@royalparks.org.uk

What should I wear?

This is an outdoor event so please wear comfortable clothing that is suitable for being outdoors at this time of year. The ground may be muddy or uneven, and some species may scratch or sting, so sturdy closed-toe footwear and covered legs and arms are advised. Bring a raincoat and warm layers.

Do I need to bring anything?

No, but if you have your own hand lens (jewellers loupe) or magnifying glass, please do feel free to bring it with you. We will hand out resources to share on the day.

Can I bring a dog?

We kindly ask that dogs do not accompany you to this event. Assistance dogs are welcome.

Where does the walk end?

We will finish the walk near to the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, approximately a 10-15 minute walk from our starting point.

How do i get there?

Baker Street is the closest underground station, Marylebone is the closest railway station. There are a selection of buses along Park Road and Marylebone Road. There is no parking in The Regent’s Park near the meeting point.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The event will go ahead if cold or raining, but in the event of extreme weather it may be rescheduled or cancelled at short notice.
