Event description
Furniture Up-cycling Workshop Creative and Inclusive

About this Event

At this fun, creative class you will learn basic practical furniture skills including sanding, cleaning, priming, painting, design and basic upholstery. Students are encouraged to get creative and put their own personal twist into their item.

You can bring along your own piece of furniture to upcycle OR choose from the selection provided at the class. If your item has upholstered parts to it, feel free to bring in some fabric or choose from the selection of textiles provided.

Everyone gets to keep the item they create. However, if you do not have room in your home you can leave it with us AND if its good enough we will sell it on our website to fund our social enterprise. All items sold on our site go back into providing cheaper workshops to charities.

PLEASE NOTE we provide aprons, however some paint can go astray so please make sure you wear clothes and shoes you dont mind getting messy.

PLEASE ALLOW an hour after the class ends for paint to be touch dry so you can take your finished objects home with you. We will provide refreshments durning the class so you can sit and chat between working on your item and after the class finishes

SO WHOS YOUR TEACHER?

With 10 years of experience in luxury furniture retail, Elise is a connoisseur of design history and product creation. At the age of 27 she graduated with a BA in Furniture and Product Design from CASS Design School of London Metropolitan University.

Since graduating 3 years ago, Elise has spent her time undertaking an apprenticeship in upholstery where she mastered skills in the art of soft furnishings. Volunteering her time to Petit Miracles’ upcycling furniture workshop, a love of transforming old designs into new, exciting objects emerged. Most recently, Elise worked for the London Charity Poetry in Wood which teaches adults with extreme autism and learning difficulties how to make simple things out of wood. All of these experiences have instilled in Elise a real passion for helping others. She believes you can heal yourself through the creative process of design and hands on making. She is uplifting and positive - lifting people's spirits and allowing them to look out of themselves and grasp on to some self belief.
