About this Event

5 WEEK EVENING CLASS

TUESDAYS 25th FEBRUARY - 24th MARCH

6:30pm - 9:00pm

Our Further Bookbinding course will explore unusual and imaginative forms of bookbinding, building on basic forms to gain an expanded repertoire of bindings, and build up your skills.

A course for those who want to explore slightly more complex or unexpected forms of bookbinding, and gain ideas for future projects at home.

The course is designed for those who already have some familiarity with bookbinding and want to build on that and discover new ways of making books.

We will cover some more complex binding techniques, or at least bindings which take a bit more time, but still at an easy pace and with plenty of support.

What experience do I need?

This course is designed as a follow-on for the Intermediate Bookbinding course offered here at the workshop. We will explore book forms which haven’t yet been covered, and try out interesting variations on common bindings.

You don’t have to have taken an Intermediate Bookbinding course with us, but it will help if you have taken at least an Introduction to Bookbinding course or attended one of our Bookbinding Taster Days.

What will I make?

You’ll come away with at least five books of different kinds, including at least one substantial hardback book. Other techniques that we will cover include multi-section stitches, board books, glued and stitched books, and folded books such as blizzard books.

Who is my tutor?

Susie Rumsby is a Printmaking Instructor at Leeds Arts University, where she introduces students to screen print, etching, linocut, monoprint and bookbinding. Before coming to teach art in Leeds, Susie studied printmaking in Portland, Oregon, where she also worked as a master printer’s apprentice, an artists’ assistant, and at Portland Art Museum helping to put on shows of prints and drawings. Susie is a founding committee member of Leeds Print Workshop, and believes in making the fun of printmaking open to as many people as possible.

Do I need to bring anything?

Leeds Print Workshop will provide all the bookbinding tools you will need, as well as paper, buckram and any other materials needed to make your books. However, if you have some interesting papers which you think would make a good book, feel free to bring them along.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will issue a refund if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the course, after which no refunds will be issued. Please note Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.

By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible but, due to the nature of the building, Leeds Print Workshop is not wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building and four steps down to the toilets, and no accessible toilet facilities. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss accessibility before booking, please don't hesitate to email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
