Event description

Description

Wednesday 13th December, 12:00pm – 15:00pm

The Terrace, House of Commons, Palace of Westminster,

Chair: Dame Ruth Silver, Founding President of FETL

The FETL Winter Symposium is focused on the leadership of thinking, the roles and relationships between sector leaders, governors, employers, and elected officials. It is intended as not only a celebration of the work FETL has already undertaken, but an opportunity for leaders to meet and consider the future leadership needs of the further education and skills sector.

The parliamentary symposium will be chaired by Dame Ruth Silver and features:

  • Alan Cave, CE, APM UK
  • Angela Lloyd, Chair of Governors, Coleg Gwent
  • Sir Michael Wilshaw, Trustee at EPI and former Chief Inspector
  • Pat Carvalho, Principal and CEO, Harrow College

FETL is an independent think tank and charity working to strengthen and support the leadership of thinking in further education and skills. For too long, further education has been under-researched, under-theorised and under-understood. We have worked with College CEOs and Chairs across the UK, as well as the Social Market Foundation, IPPR, Policy Connect, the RSA, the Association of Colleges and others to deliver research examining all areas of the further education, skills and employment sectors.

Attendees will hear from number of the authors who have helped create the FETL body of work, alongside sector and Parliamentary leaders to make-up an opening panel. This will be followed by a celebratory reception on the Terrace of the House of Commons. The event will be attended by local leaders including college Principals, Chief Executives, Chairs and governors and their MPs, as well as an array of other senior stakeholders.

We hope you will put this event in your diaries and join us on the 13th of December. For further information, please contact Simon Kelleher, Head of Education and Skills at Policy Connect.
