COURSE ONLY OPEN TO TOWER HAMLETS GENERAL PRACTICE STAFF

Aims and objectives

Enable participants to have a deeper understanding of commonly used medical terms and abbreviations in mental health and other body systems not covered in the introduction to medical terminology course plus an understanding of prescribing, investigations and surgical procedures.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding of the principles of prescribing and drugs commonly used in primary care
  • Ability to recognise common investigations and common surgical procedures
  • Overview of how body systems work (this builds on the introduction to medical terminology course)
  • Overview of the main mental health conditions.

Course content:

Within a safe environment, the content will include:

  • Description and discussion on the main mental health conditions
  • Basic anatomy of body systems (this builds on the introduction to medical terminology course), e.g. blood disorders, musculoskeletal conditions, reproductive systems, endocrine system and sensory organs
  • Terminology of prescribing, common investigations and surgical procedures.
  • Question and answer sessions, finishing with a quiz.
