FUTURE FORWARD: future proofing local social action

Join us on Tuesday 5 December 2017 for our Future Forward Conference and AGM.

Times are tough for our sector – there’s nothing new there – but the biggest challenges we face come from uncertainty. In a world where the only thing we can be sure of is that things will change, the political, economic, social uncertainty we operate within makes it hard for us to know what we should do next or how best we should do it.

But if it’s tough for us, it’s a damned sight harder for the ultimate beneficiaries of our work – the individuals and communities for whom uncertainty, discrimination, disadvantage and vulnerability are factors of daily life.

So we have a job to do, and a responsibility to fulfil – to make sure that we are as resilient, flexible, responsive and well prepared as we can possibly be in the face of whatever the future holds, in order to continue to powerfully support those that need us.

So that’s the theme of our 2017 annual event: futureproofing our sector, our organisations and ourselves to deliver powerful and impactful social action, no matter what the future throws at us. And as the only national organisation to solely represent local infrastructure organisations in England, we’ll be looking at these issues specifically from the perspective of local infrastructure and local social action.

We’ll be taking a look at the horizon and thinking about uncertain futures. We’ll be exploring and sharing ways to build our sector’s resilience, organisationally and personally. We’ll be thinking positively about the practicalities – where might funding come from in the future? How do we make the best possible use of digital? How do we support our teams and develop the next generation of local infrastructure leaders?

And we’ll be sharing some of NAVCA’s own journey towards futureproofing itself to make it the most effective, supportive, powerful organisation it can be for its members, and inviting delegates to help shape NAVCA’s future at an exciting time in its evolution.

We have some fantastic speakers lined up already – Baroness Jill Pitkeathley and Julia Unwin to name but two – and a packed agenda. The day will incorporate our AGM – the opportunity for members to directly influence and make decisions on NAVCA’s future – and there’ll be plenty of opportunities for you to network with old friends and new colleagues, including a networking breakfast for ‘new’ Chief Officers to meet each other, make useful connections and be welcomed into the NAVCA family.

We’re excited about the future and the opportunities it holds for us all. We are determined to be ready to grasp those opportunities and face the challenges boldly and bravely.
