The Jersey Systems Thinking Lab with Jane Davidson is an event designed to explore sustainability strategies and intricate policy issues, with a focus on reimagining public policy for future generations.

Jane Davidson, the former Welsh Government Education & Environment Minister and current Chairwoman of Wales Net Zero 35, was instrumental in introducing the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

Davidson's commitment to advancing regenerative and sustainable practices in governance is exemplified by her leadership of the Wales Net Zero 35 group, which is dedicated to sourcing transformative examples globally and crafting a comprehensive 10-year action plan from 2025-2035.

After lunch, Jane will share her story and lead a thought-provoking discussion aimed at challenging assumptions and uncovering hidden barriers that impede progress in sustainability efforts in Jersey. We will delve into the obstacles and enablers of implementing a regenerative policy approach that reconnects entire ecosystems, encompassing individuals, communities, and businesses.

In her 2020 book, #futuregen, Jane Davidson chronicles Wales' evolution from reliance on traditional industries to a sustainable growth model, showcasing how the nation's natural resources and resilient communities have underpinned this transformation. Davidson embodies Wales' trailblazing initiatives in legislating for future generations, serving as a guiding light for global sustainability endeavors.

Speaker profile: Jane Davidson is the Chair of Wales Net Zero 2035 and the author of #futuregen: Lessons from a Small Country – the story of how Wales became the first country in the world to legislate in the interest of future generations.

She is a patron of the UK Chartered Institute of Ecologists and Environmental Managers and Pro Vice-Chancellor Emeritus at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. From 2000 – 2011, she was Cabinet Minister for Education, then Environment and Sustainability in Wales where she proposed legislation to make sustainability the central organising principle of government: the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act came into law in 2015. She introduced the first plastic bag charge in the UK, and her recycling regulations took Wales to among the best in the world. She created a Climate Change Commission for Wales, the post of Sustainable Futures Commissioner, One Planet Developments and the Wales Coast Path.
