Setting up a ‘Lasting Power of Attorney’

Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), are legal documents that allow you to choose one or more people to help make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf, should you be unable to do so. LPAs are a simple way of protecting your health, your finances, and the people you trust.

LPAs can be expensive to set up, but the Future Matters Islington service, run by Gentle Dusk in partnership with Age UK Islington, can provide free support to help you put one in place.

Making a Will

Your Will lets you decide what happens to your money, property and possessions after your death. You can write your will yourself, but you should get advice if your will is not straightforward. You must also make sure that it’s valid. A Will is a legal document so it needs to be written and signed correctly. If you decide to make your own Will, it’s best to seek advice first.

How can I get further support following the presentation?

Future Matters Islington offers free one-to-one support for putting in place an LPA and other advance care plans. These will enable you to appoint one or more people to help you make decisions or make decisions on your behalf to do with your health and financial affairs.

Who is it for?

This event is open to anyone with an interest in learning more about planning for their future.

The Future Matters Islington service is available to all Islington residents or those with an Islington GP with an interest in learning more about planning for their future; there are no health or financial criteria. To make an LPA you must be 18 or over and have mental capacity.
